Youth Theatre Masterclass (Cat in the Hat)

Join the director and touring cast of acclaimed theatre production Cat in the Hat! These masterclasses are for students who display a high standard of theatre etiquette and a desire to excel in acting. This masterclass will provide a chance to hone your performance skills, gain confidence and hear from to industry experts. This experience is FREE thanks to the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). Cat in the Hat

Two bored kids. One rainy day. And one crazy cat wearing a red-striped hat.In 1957, Theodor Seuss Geisel used this formula and only 200 words to write his second children’s book as Dr. Seuss. More than 50 years later, The Cat in the Hat is a much-loved children’s phenomenon.

Guru Dudu

Guru Dudu is a lovable funny man who opens our “laughter meridians” through accessing the inner-child, particularly in group settings. He’s passionate about giving people permission to play and celebrate their creative and quirky selves. Guru Dudu is the global originator of Silent Disco Walking Tours whereby everyone wears headphones (supplied) and can hear the commentary from the tour guide and the dance-mix of uplifting faves from the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s.

The Collectors

The character of ‘Magnolia’ from The Collectors takes participants on a journey into the heart of the Forgotten Forest. In this immersive workshop experience props from the Suitcase of Curiosities evoke magic and set the scene for heartfelt, funny and incredible true stories of humans connection with individuals in nature. 

Poetry & Pizza

Come along an enjoy an interactive poetry night with Jason and Megan Roweth, the father-daughter duo, as they share their story and create poetry with you.

Fresh wood fired prizza will be available to purchase from $5.

Telling tales through Drama

This high energy workshop introduces students to the joy of dramatic story telling. A series of comedic exercises help students develop skills to tell stories of their own creation – incorporating narration, mime, voice and movement. The workshop culminates in the students working together to create and present their tale. 

Magic & Bubbles

My name is Glen and I am a bubble-ologist or sometimes called a ‘bubble artist’. I have developed the most awesome bubble workshop that kids of all ages will absolutely love. Fun, Interactive, entertaining and totally unique.

The Memphis Moovers

When  you’re visiting the Mary Poppins Festival in 2019, keep an eye out for a novelty roving car, costumed in a Mary Poppins style. The Memphis Moovers will provide ‘music on the moove’ at the festival, creating a fun atmosphere and some WOW factor appeal for event goers.

Mary Poppins Movies

Get into the Mary Poppins spirit as part of the festival and head to the Town Hall Green in Maryborough where both Mary Poppins movies will be played.

Mary Poppins Markets

Head to the Maryborough City Heart Markets held in the Maryborough CBD for a special edition during the Mary Poppins Festival and watch a performance by the father-daughter duo, Jason & Megan Roweth.

Local stories from timber

Bodja Chairmaking’s Dr. Mike Epworth and Bronwyn Harm will be holding workshops over 5 days from Monday 1 July to Saturday 6 July at Customs Residence Laundry. Participants can drop in for an hour or for the entire five days of the workshop which will be centered around a Mary Poppins theme.

Movies in the Park

Head to Neilsen Park in Maryborough as part of the Mary Poppins Festival to watch both of the Mary Poppins Movies to be played in Nielsens Park.

A-Team Skipping Workshop

Join the Albert State School A-Team as we demonstrate some super skipping skills to toe-tapping music and conduct a workshop to take you back to your childhood memories or pick up some new tricks. We are ambassadors for healthy living and encourage others to get active using different ropes and equipment. Our skippers range from Year 2 to Year 6 but we encourage people of all ages to have a go!

Jason & Megan Roweth

This award-winning father and 12-year-old daughter combination has been stopping the show at festival spoken word events. Their combined repertoires encompass older traditional poems and those just being born, and yarns resonant with Australian character and place. They will take you on an emotional journey, make you laugh – and think!

The English Bobbies

This accessible, inclusive, magical roving theatre is sensitive to its audiences and reflective of the increasingly multi-cultural society we live in. Highly visual, interactive, non-intrusive and non-language dependent, this unique form of roving theatre transcends barriers of age, language and culture. The English Bobbies is a show-stopping, interactive and comical mask theatre walkabout act, specifically tailored for a wide array of festivals, events and occasions.

King of Kids

No glitter – simply guitar, kazoo and rock ‘n’ roll rhymes with King of the Kids! The pied piper of little people, Tim Jackman will have you under his musical spell before you can say ‘Hickory Dickory Rock!’ You’ll be happy and you’ll know it as you join The King to dance and sing to a classic set of songs about twinkling stars, climbing spiders, tipping teapots and a whole lot of animals.

Fun Uke for Kids

A simple, but fun workshop, introducing children (4+ years) to the very cute and often funny ukulele – it’s the one instrument you can’t play and not laugh!!! There will be music, dancing, kids can show off their best rockin’ ukulele moves and amongst all of that fun, we will attempt to show kids how to position their fingers to form a couple of simple chords and do some strumming to rockin’ versions of ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ and ‘Frere Jacques’.

Twisted Jewellery Making

For ages 8+, participants will learn a simple technique creating twine from two strands of fibre. All materials are provided but by all means bring along fibres or natural trims such as shells, seeds that you would like to include.

Marc the Joyologist

Join ‘Team Joy’ for Creative FUN, Playful Interactive Games, Uplifting Rainbow Parades, Stage Show, and Colorful Crafts. Happy days! Marc the Joylogist will bringing lots of happiness to this year’s Mary Poppins Festival.

Humphrey B Bear

Humphrey is a fun honey-loving magical bear, who like every kid, loves exploring, creating, learning, trying new things, and playing with his friends. Humphrey likes to take his friends on magical journeys of discovery where there are lots of songs to sing, stories to hear,  things to learn and games to play.

The Poet

Can you find Louise Moriarty the Pop up poet ? Or will she find you? Louise has a vision, for every person in the world to feel seen and valued, just for being their amazing self.

She weaves spells into her handmade paper and through her poetry performances she acknowledges the essence of you. 

Jacqueline Harvey

Jacqueline Harvey knew she wanted to be an author at a young age. She couldn’t say exactly when, but winning a minor writing competition as a teenager inspired her to think that maybe, sometime in the future, she might be able to write books.

The Clementine Rose series for younger readers has followed closely in the footsteps of Alice-Miranda’s success and has been sold to the United Kingdom and Brazil and is now also available in the US. .
