Unicycle Challenge

Bart the Chimney Sweep challenges keen unicyclists in a series of unicycle challenges and obstacles including:

  • 50m sprint
  • 50m backwards race
  • 50m ride and juggle
  • 10m slow race
  • 30m sky race (competitors must freemount a giraffe unicycle (5' minimum), race to the end and then dismount gracefully)

Points will be awarded to the competitors for each race they rank in. At the end of both heats prizes will be awarded to the competitors with the most points.

Competition Rules and Conditions:

  • The rider must own and compete on a standard unicycle driven by crank arms directly attached to the axle, and is propelled only by human force (no geared unicycles).
  • Max. Wheel Size 24" with the outside diameter of the tyre no larger than 61.8cm 
  •  Min. Crank Length:
    • for 24" wheels - no shorter than 125mm
    • for 20" wheels - no shorter than 114mm
    • for 16" wheels - no shorter than 100mm

 Safety gear

  • Riders must wear an Australian approved cycling helmet and covered shoes with no loose shoelaces.

 Assisted starts

  • Riders may have an assisted start to the race, but if they dismount during the race they must be able to free mount to continue the race.          

 Interference

  • There shall be no intentional interference between riders. Riders found doing this will be disqualified from the competition.

The finish line

  • Riders must be riding in a controlled manner (more or less) when they cross the finish line (falling over the line does not count).

Calculating places

  • Points are awarded for each race, depending on the place earned.
  • The rider at the end of the event with the most points is declared the winner.
  • The following points will be awarded for the following places in each event.
    • 1st        8 points
    • 2nd      6 points
    • 3rd       4 points
    • 4th       2 points
    • 5th       1 point

 Ties

  • If two riders tie in a race they are both awarded full points for that place.
  • If two riders tie on overall points the winner is the rider with the most 1st place positions. If the riders tie on 1st placings then the winner is the rider with the most 2nd places, and so on.
  • If the riders still tie after all places have been considered then the award is given to the rider who did best in the 50m sprint.
